Battle at the Bear and Colorado Springs

Went out to Bear Creek State Park for the Battle at the Bear on Saturday. It was a fun race, the girls and I were together most of the race. Ellen and I gaped Wesley and Ellie near the end, and I was able to hold Ellen off till the finish.

Today I went down to Colorado Springs for a local race down there. It was a circuit race 75 minutes plus a lap. Ellen and I were the only junior Cat 1 girls. I'm not sure how many laps I did, because after 3 or so its hard to keep track. Maybe 7. It was a fun course though, about 2.3 mile, 2 steep climbs and 2 fun turney descents, with some flat rolling sections thrown in between. I ended up first and Ellen wasn't far behind.

Oh and HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to all those moms out there

Fruita, Finally

The Fruita MSC race was this past weekend, and I must say, once I got there, it was a great start to the season!

Getting there however, posed some problems. We left Boulder at 12 on Friday and swung out to Lafayette to pick up Greg. The roads were not too bad in the foot hills, not much accumulation due to the warm temp, but when we got up into the mountains it was DUMPING! We got about a mile outside of Georgetown and sat for about two hours not moving. Then we starting moving again! alas it was only to turn us around, the road was CLOSED. We were told they should be open by 6am Saturday. We headed back down I-70 and decided to get off at Idaho Springs to see if there were any hotels to wait out the storm in. We ended up getting stuck in about three feet of snow and having to get towed out. All the hotels were booked, so we got the privilege of stay in a red cross relief shelter in the Idaho Springs Middle School.

We ended up not really needing the cots, non of us were able to sleep much anyway. 6am rolled around and they were telling us the road was still closed, East bound would be open in 20 min, but west bound, at the earliest would be open at 10 if at all Saturday. Thankfully they were wrong (an as we found out later, liers, the Geers had been driving right by on I-70 at about that same time) by 8 we were allowed to leave, hopefully to make it to our destination in time for the time trial.

We got to rabbit valley at 12:30, I missed my start, but thankfully I was allowed to go at the end of the pro race. The TT was Super Fun! Some short steep climbs, fun technical trevirs, some sketchey drops then flowey rollers to the finish. I love that course! I ended up 2nd, not too shabby. The XC was Long, and so much fire road, deffientally not my favorite course. I lost modivation about a third through the race and Ellie and I road it out to the finish, we tried to catch Alicia and Ellen up the back fire road climb, but they were just too fast! Ellen ending up winning!!!!!!! Poor Alica ran in a flat, and Ellie and I had a sprint finish. Wesley was not too far behind. And Meghan, what will we do with that girl, she got injured again, this time seperating her sholder off a drop. I hope you heal fast chickey poo!

AZ Camp

Got back from a winter training camp in AZ a few days ago. Went down with Coach Trombley, Coach Nick, Alec, Ellen, Brae, Meghan and Ben. Six days of awesome riding, working on LT endurance, technical skills, hydration, visualization and sprints with a mock race thrown in to practice it all. Great riding, could have done with out the 28 hour round trip drive though.

The Group (minus Ann and me)

Out for our morning walk, before push ups and abs.

There were LOTS of snakes!

Brae's brilliant plan to wax his legs turned out to be not so brilliant after all.

Hike-a-bikes are not fun! At least when we got to the top there was some sweet single track.

Flated twice, maybe its time for tubeless

I took the win for the woman's mock race followed closely by Ellen, while Ben finished the race in first for the men. Poor Meghan fell into a cactus, her leg and butt were pretty much covered, needless to say she didn't finish the race. Brae didn't finish due to back problems.

It was a great week off, and I learned a lot, sucks to be back at school.
